New Orleans

I have been lax in getting the blog updated so I hope I haven't forgotten everything we saw in New Orleans.

We stayed at a basic campground with full hookups.  The campground wasn't in the best area but was clean and gated.  Would not stay there again only because of the train switching station right behind the campground, very noisy day and night.

One of the first areas we visited was an above ground cemetery very old.  First time I have ever seen an above the ground cemetery.

Of course no visit to New Orleans would be complete without a visit to the French Quarter.  I suppose it would have been more interesting to go at night but we are not night people so we did a day trip.  Lots of vendors selling their pictures and other things.  We did see a gentleman walking around with a snake around his neck but neither one of us wanted to get close enough to take a picture. Very interesting.

One of the things we like to do when in old historic cities to check out the architecture of the buildings in the old sections of town.  New Orleans has a lot of history and we didn't even touch the surface.  The city seems to be restoring a lot of the historic houses in some areas.

We also took a day trip out to tour one of the plantations in the area.  This one is still being lived in by the owner. Houmas House.

The furniture was amazing, very well crafted.

 Solid brass sculpture of Lincoln
The is a picture an of the official wedding of the original dogs on the planation.  There is still descendants of this couple occupying the planation.

One of the last things we did was to go to the WWII museum.  Very well done and anyone interested in WWII history should take the time to see it.

Next stop will be Galveston for a week and than on to San Antonio.  We did run into a little snow on the way to Galveston.

I guess our attempt to stay out of this kind of weather didn't work this time.  we ended up safety in Galveston and camped on the beach for a week.....No snow.....

Until next time.

Here is a link to more pictures.  Still Livin the Dream.
